I’m almost done and have really enjoyed it. It had so many amazing reviews that I decided to view it. Despite this, I have loved the plot, characters, and acting. Unlike Downton Abbey, many of the characters (most of them) are dishonest at heart but by the end, many get better. The first episodes of the first series have the majority of these scenes. There are about 42 episodes and maybe 10 have nudity, sex, rape, or violence-but no homosexuality. Much like Downton Abbey there are a few PG-13 and rated R scenes.
Great acting, great set, and an engaging romantic plot tied into an engaging murder mystery plot. The Gran Hotel– This is a Spanish series (subtitles in English) very similar to Downton Abbey. As the series progress, it does get a bit more soap opera-ish but finishes very strong. But I love them, even more, when the marriage is the highlight of the show. Poldark– This is an AMAZING MUST SEE series! Finally, a truly romantic show that showcases the main characters in married life. Matthew Macfadyen was also good despite Arthur being such a bland character written seemingly as a plot device to accommodate the story of Amy Dorrit. Little Dorrit – The cast in this series was delightful. The dialog is witty and humorous in parts, great costumes have historical relevance with regard to Scotland yard, and the attitudes of the day, along with the filming in Dublin, this series is fun and well done. Miss Scarlet and the Duke – If you like Masterpiece Theater, or Victorian period pieces and mysteries, then you’ll love this new series. It strives to remain true to the novel and quotes hundreds of lines from it verbatim. Pride and Prejudice DVD Version Only- I adore this version as it is perfectly casted, well filmed, and wonderfully scripted. I’ll continue adding more, so please pin or bookmark for more.ġ. Oh by the way- there are now way more than 21 movies because I’ve had some awesome suggestions from wonderful readers of what to add and new movies have hit the theaters. Note: If there is more than one film that I love of a certain title I have ordered them in my first choice, 2nd, and 3rd.
The following shows are entertaining, well written, well acted, and have been loved over time! The great thing with this list is that if you love one of these films/series, you will most likely love all of them! For those just discovering this amazing genre or for those wishing to find more, I’ve created this list of similar productions. Pride and Prejudice and Downton Abbey have been extremely popular (and for good reason) and are two of my favorites. Especially those with good acting, that is well written and historically accurate.
