I'm all for difficulty toggles and changing games to make them easier for different audiences, but that's up to the developer. If you don't like a thing because it doesn't fit what you want out of something to be, that's fine, but you also can't expect that others should cater to you. Asking devs to toggle a bunch of settings to fit what you in particular would like out of a game is unreasonable, particularly when that wasn't the experience they wanted to make. It would be like asking the director of The Thing to cut out the gross parts so that audiences could choose to watch that version if they didn't want to see anything too challenging, or asking the maker of The Godfather to make a cut where no one dies because shooting is too stressful for some viewers. Once again, because it isn't what the creator wanted to make. The boxes you're drawing around what a game should be and what "fun" can be defined as are coming from your specific notions of what you want out of games. And many times, stress leading to a release can be extremely relaxing as well. All of these things can provide fun in a way that's totally not relaxing. You know what can be fun? Rollercoasters, haunted houses, jumping off a diving board, edge of your seat thriller movies, etc. This is such a myopic way of looking at things. Something like Kingdom Hearts or Wind Waker? Forget it.įor those of you that like it easy, what is the appeal? Discuss. At least there you can generally think about an alternate solution if you get stuck like most RPGs. The only series I stick with despite the frustration these days is the SMT games. I'd quit! Never mind my friend that got so mad once he flung his Xbox down his drive way and it broke into pieces.

Is it worth the pointlessness? What's the appeal (if you don't care about game balance)? Like I can't imagine playing something for 2 hours, then realizing I am repeating the same actions over and over again with no strategy or thought(losing none of my lives for example). Coming up on yet another near impossible to lose against boss, or whatever lameduck challenge a game throws at you, or losing my sanity because the game is overly simple is rage inducing honestly.

I think the last game where I chose a difficulty below "hard" was playing through SMT Nocturne on "Normal" on the PS2 lol. I don't have a lot of time for games these days, so the bit of time I do get, I like to be guaranteed that I'll be satisfied in the hour here or there to play. What I don't understand is how that's considered "fun"? I get that some people love to sleepwalk through a game, they'll always choose the easiest difficulty in a game, or gravitate towards easy series like the Kirby games.
